Elderly Care – Long-Term Project
FJCU’s Department of Italian Language and Culture includes service learning modules in its curriculum to help students enhance their learning and to put into practice the Catholic spirit of caring for all humanity. Jointly organized by the Department of Italian Language and Culture as well as the College of Foreign Languages and Literatures Ministry Center, students would head to Taishan Home for the Elderly to volunteer their service for an hour each Saturday. About 10 or more students would volunteer 10-16 times per semester, accompanying the elderly by chatting or singing with them. Through this process of dialogue with the elderly, students gain different perspectives in life and are thus motivated to grow.
