FJCU collaborates with domestic and international agencies in an effort to enable the sharing of medical knowledge across languages 2020

International Federation of Catholic Universities (FIUC)

Program in International Medical Translation :

Partners on campus: the Graduate Institute of Cross-Cultural Studies In-service Master’s Program for Translation and Interpretation Studies, the College of Medicine, St. Luke’s Health Management Center
Partners off campus: Union International Assistance, Taipei City Hospital Zhongxing Branch, Taiwan Adventist Hospital International Priority Care Center, Shin Kong Wu Ho Su Memorial Hospital, LoreMaster Tech Inc., and more.

The program helps students develop their abilities in translation and interdisciplinary knowledge, as well as strengthens their practical knowledge. This is to enhance their ability to provide linguistic services in the field of medicine, which gives them a competitive edge while also driving the integration between medicine and medical linguistic services.

Impact:
1. From February 2020 to July 2020, a total of 8 students enrolled in the professional internship course. Originally, job-shadowing/internships were to be arranged for the students at organizations providing health care, but plans were derailed due to the pandemic; for this semester, they did their internship through translation (23 cases in total), logging 93 hours of internship experience.

2. In the second semester of the 2019 academic year, a total of 110 student self-learning reports, group review reports, and company visit/translation/experience-sharing internship reports was tallied, numbering a total of 441 records to date
