“The ecosystem of universities develops when every member of the university becomes sensitive to each person and to the whole person, to the context in which people live and grow, and to everything that can contribute to their advancement.” Pupils from central and southern Taiwan, or from areas hit by Typhoon Morakot, as well as those living on offshore islands or children of new immigrants, are likely to have at some point forged a bond with an FJCU student. These ‘elder siblings’ are members of FJCU’s Center of Care Services for Education in the Rural Areas.
FJCU’s service learning education, caring for the disadvantaged: past, present, and future. One-on-one remote teaching, utilizing technology to be ‘instant and interactive study buddies’, bridging the gap with their pupils living in rural areas, and being a helping hand in their growth.
